Stevan’s Consignment builds community relationship through family legacy

Stevan’s Consignment owner, Amanda Myers, is continuing her family legacy of offering unique, quality home furnishings to residents of the Valley of the Sun. Ms. Myers is the granddaughter of Bernadean Fuller, interior designer and founder of Stevan’s Furniture and Interior Design.
She now has two shop locations, with one being in the Town of Paradise Valley at 5203 E. Lincoln Drive. The Paradise Valley boutique showrooms showcase unique Old World and Contemporary home furnishing with an emphasis on quality, according to a press release.
Ms. Myers opened a second Stevan’s Consignment location in Scottsdale in 2013 with a belief that the growing trend in consignment resale was evidence of a change in the way consumers shop.
“They still want quality, and if possible, without the retail price tag. Finding really unique home furnishings and arranging them in a way that reflects the homeowner’s personality and makes them happy is my goal,” Ms. Myers said in a prepared statement.
Stevan’s Scottsdale location is at 15770 N. Greenway-Hayden Loop, and offers Old World, Contemporary, Rustic, Transitional and Southwestern furnishings.
“Our inventory includes many high-end manufacturers including Maitland Smith, Theodore Alexander, Marge Carson, John Richards,” she noted. “We also provide a diverse selection of original art and bronzes, hand-made rugs, mirrors and chandeliers.”
Amanda views consignment as a great way to recapture some of the investment in fine furnishings that no longer meet the owners needs, the press release stated. In addition to consigned items, Stevan’s offers new furniture and accessories that are hard to find in consignment shops.
“We pride ourselves on building relationships, not only with our customers and consignors but with those involved in all facets of home ownership that we meet during the course of our daily business,” she said.
“I have been very blessed to have my Grandmother by my side. I am again seeing proof of the importance of building relationships as people stop into the new Paradise Valley location and ask, ‘Is this the Stevan’s that was on Bell Road?’ — makes my heart smile!” Stevan’s Furniture and Interior Design was the original Stevan’s furniture store, located on West Bell Road in Phoenix from 1993 to 2002.

Your Name: Amanda Myers
Where did you grow up? I was born in Phoenix, AZ and moved to Morenci, AZ in 1984. At the age of 11, I returned to Phoenix where I have resided ever since.
Tell us about the events that led up to where you are now. In 1992, my grandmother, Bernadean Fuller and Stevan Thompson, joined forces and opened Stevan’s
Furniture and Interior Design on Bell Rd. and 26th St. In 5 years, their showroom grew from 3500 sq ft to 12000 sq ft. In 2002, my grandmother decided to relocate the store to the SW corner of Scottsdale and Lincoln where the old Mehagians store was located. In 2007, my grandmother closed her business and sold the inventory to Champange’s.
I grew up in this business, managing my grandmothers’ store for 10 years. This allowed me to gain exposure and experience in every aspect of the business. After my grandmother retired, I focused on completing my education and obtained a bachelors degree in International Business with a concentration in Marketing from ASU. Post ASU, I was employed in the sales group at Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold, an International Mining Company, headquartered here in Phoenix. After three years in corporate America, I decided it was time to take a chance on myself and pursue my dream. In May of 2013, I sublet a portion of the showroom at Reclaimed Interiors on Greenway-Hayden Loop and within one month, I had taken over the lease and resigned from my position with Freeport.
What is your business and how are you unique from others in the same category? Stevans Consignment specializes in high-end, gently used furniture, lighting, rugs, tapestries, art, bronzes, mirrors, accessories and antiques. Stevans also offers interior design services with a one hour complimentary design consultation. Our design services include custom florals, trees, draperies, bedding, pillows, throws, faux finishing and reupholstery. We strive to provide our consignors with professional services and quality display and marketing of their items. Those same professional services are extend to our clients from a knowledgeable, friendly staff. New clients cannot believe that we are a consignment store!
Can you give residents some advice? Buyers are smart and we cater to that! Buyers can purchase high-end, gently used furniture and all of the trimming for a 1/3 of the price of new items. For potential consignors, we suggested you visit the consignment stores – How are you treated? – How are the items displayed? – What is the quality of the inventory? These are all important items to consider when decided who to consign with.
What else should we know about you/your business? I am very proud of the service we provide. I feel truly blessed in so many ways to be able to pursue my dream and spend every day with the two most important women in my life, my mother, Barbara Myers and my grandmother, Bernadean Fuller.
The future? Hopefully, my business will continue to grow and someday I would like to open additional locations.
